Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic since 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Behind three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 win in the series. They will now face the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the upcoming championship.
"It's incredible for everyone here, our city, our country," Springer stated, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now connected for 23 October home runs, making him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another player anywhere that I'd prefer in that moment besides him with his playoff prowess," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the sole team yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Wilson said "certainly that it's going to sting" after his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their work in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he continued.
Toronto's team won the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
