The King's Record-Setting Point-Scoring Streak Comes to a Close, But Los Angeles Secure Win Against Raptors.

The Lakers star knew his historic run of putting up 10+ points was threatened. When it mattered most, however, he wasn't bothered.

The smart move was to pass the rock – and he executed. With that selfless act, the legendary streak was over.

LeBron's staggering run of over 1,200 straight regular-season outings scoring at least ten ended during a recent game, when the NBA's all-time scoring leader was limited to eight total points during the Los Angeles Lakers' close triumph versus Toronto. He delivered the clutch helper, finding teammate Rui Hachimura to hit a three-point shot as time expired.

“None,” James stated in response on the record concluding. “The important thing is we won.”

A Selfless Decision Secures the Win

LeBron had the chance to tried to secure the contest – while also extending the streak – with the last shot, instead, he decided to make the extra pass to his teammate in the left corner. Hachimura sank it, and James raised his arms with his hands in the air.

It's about playing basketball correctly. You always make the correct play,” James explained. That has always been my philosophy. It's how I learned to play. I've played that way my whole career.”

“LeBron is fully cognizant of his point total he's scored at all times,” said the team's head coach the coach. He acted just as he has so many times.”

The Run's End Game

LeBron checked back into the game for the final time at just over five minutes left, the result and the streak on the line. His tally was six points from 3 for 15 from the field at that juncture.

He managed a basket at 1:46 left to level the contest and missed a 14-footer with 1:01 left which could have taken him to ten points.

He didn’t take another shot – but could have. Austin Reaves gave James the ball in the waning seconds, but James decided to dish it off instead of shooting.

The basketball deities, if you approach it the right way, they will bless you,” Redick stated.

The History of an Unparalleled Record

James's streak commenced on Jan. 6, 2007. It was, by far the greatest double-digit streak the league has ever seen: MJ previously held a streak of 866 straight games with 10+ points, Kareem had 787 such games, and Karl Malone was fourth on the list with 575.

“He’s such an unselfish player,” remarked Lakers center a fellow Laker.

He simply plays the game of basketball. The chance was there but given who he is on the court and his character off the court, he made the team play, found Rui and secured the game.”

Reaching double digits had long been a guarantee early in the final period. Over the course of the record, he had attained double figures entering the fourth 1,266 times coming into the contest.

Yet two such games below ten points through three quarters had happened recently: He had nine going into the fourth versus the Mavericks last week, then had six points before the fourth quarter versus the Suns earlier in the week.

James managed to preserve the record against the Suns. The very next outing, it was over – but he still rejoiced regardless.

“I always just make the right play. That’s automatic, win, lose or draw,” James said. If you make the right play, the game gods are always giving back to me.”
