The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that Pluribus would become a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the hit series coming to an end—and a second season greenlit and underway—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Has Vince Gilligan See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… with some caveats.

“There are some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to discard a decent plan for a superior concept. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
