New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD released security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning in the area between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a new signing in March and was expected to be a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a practice session on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
