Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
