King to Broadcast First-Hand Address on His Health Battle in Nationwide Programme

His Majesty has filmed a first-hand account regarding his experience with cancer, set to air as part of this year's annual cancer awareness drive, spearheaded by a leading cancer charity and a major network.

Official sources stated the King would discuss his "healing process" as a individual battling cancer, in a recorded address on Friday at 20:00 GMT.

The message, filmed within Clarence House a fortnight ago, will stress the critical nature of cancer screening checks to increase the likelihood more people diagnose the disease at an treatable phase.

This will be a uncommon insight on the wellbeing of the King, who has been in a course of therapy since the news was shared in early last year. But it is thought doubtful the King will disclose his type of cancer.

Fundraising Primary Goal

The awareness event each year raises funds for scientific studies and patient care and prompts people to get check-ups to boost the chances of an prompt identification.

The King's candid approach about his health challenge, and living with cancer, has been aimed to promote education and to persuade more people to get screened - and this will be advanced with this unique royal involvement.

To date the King's key philosophy to his cancer has been to keep working, preserving a full diary in spite of his regular rounds of therapy, and he seems not to have sought to be characterised by his diagnosis.

The past twelve months has seen the Sovereign, undertaking several international tours, such as visits to Italy and Canada, and receiving the largest volume of official guests to the UK for decades, including the German president recently.

Friday's Broadcast Event

This Friday's charity show on Channel 4, presented by presenters such as Davina McCall, Adam Hills and Clare Balding, will encourage people not to be frightened of getting preventative tests.

All three have been personally touched by cancer - McCall disclosed recently she had undergone surgery for the disease, while another presenter was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in the past. Host Adam Hills has previously discussed his late father, who had one form of cancer and then later leukaemia.

The broadcast will appeal to the approximate millions of people in the UK who health organisations state are not compliant with NHS screening schemes, with an online checker to let people determine if they are eligible for examinations for key health indicators.

In an bid to explain health tests and show the benefit of timely identification there will be a real-time transmission from cancer clinics at medical facilities in Cambridge.

"My aim is to reduce the stigma from preventative tests and demonstrate everyone that they are not alone in this," commented one of the hosts.

Available Screening Programmes

At present in the UK, there are three publicly available checks - for major health concerns - available to certain age groups.

A emerging lung cancer screening programme is also being slowly rolled out for anyone at potential risk of developing the condition, primarily aimed at people aged 55-74 years old, who have a smoking history or have smoked in the past.

Men may discuss prostate screenings, but there is no national programme in place.

Funding Research

The charity initiative, which has collected a significant sum for many years, is funding 73 clinical trials with thousands of patients.

His Majesty, in a address for guests at a gathering for support groups in April, had discussed understanding the "daunting and at times scary experience" for cancer sufferers and their loved ones.

But he noted his first-hand encounter of managing cancer had shown him that "the most difficult times of disease can be brightened by the greatest compassion," as he commended those who supported those receiving treatment.

Official sources has not revealed the nature of cancer the King has, or the therapies he has undergone. The King's cancer was detected after he had received a medical treatment.
