Brian Eno Calls On Backing to Get Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort seeks to send support to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Possibility for Support and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“It has a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down following a large-scale benefit event held in September. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the performance was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The impressive roster of artists appearing on Lullaby features a selection of well-known figures from the industry. All were part of the earlier concert, which managed to collect a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was produced by a group of music creators. The single blends a mix of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the campaign have clarified that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These resources will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The context in the area was noted for its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a few million won't make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is above all making this cause better known and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a digital service from the 19th of December.
